Practical. Partnership-focused. Diligent.

I consider myself fortunate to have entered the ocean and coastal policy world when the Marine Life Protection Act was getting underway (ok, getting underway for the 3rd time). Just after graduating from UC Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy (MPP) and Energy and Resources Group (M.Sc), I served as a consultant to the Marine Life Protection Act Initiative. Working alongside many talented colleagues, we facilitated an unprecedented stakeholder process that resulted in the designation of marine protected areas (MPAs) in California's Central Coast and laid the foundation for the MPAs that were later designated along California's entire coastline.

Shortly thereafter, I joined the California Natural Resources Agency in 2007 and worked on a variety of ocean and coastal issues including climate change, ocean acidification and hypoxia, marine debris, desalination, marine spatial planning and a partnership between the governors of California, Oregon, and Washington known as the West Coast Governors' Agreement on Ocean Health.

In 2013, I became Deputy Director of the Ocean Protection Council, supervising a staff of roughly 10 program managers, an annual budget of $2 million, and more than $50 million in state bond funds. I stewarded the organization through a Department of Finance audit that resulted in only one finding.

The Ocean Protection Council is a unique organization in California and indeed the nation. It has no regulatory authority but relies upon the collaborative nature of its staff and wise financial investments to further ocean and coastal management. Due to this unique experience, I believe I am known for my collaborative, partnership-focused approach to problem solving.

I opened my consulting business in 2017 with the hope that I can use my knowledge of ocean and coastal policy, my extensive network of trusted colleagues, and my collaborative approach to help other organizations obtain their goals.
